Is the antifreeze function constantly on when temps are below 32? Or does it just cycle/kick on every so often during a cold period of time.

The antifreeze function does not run continuously. It automatically activates when the water inside the heater drops below approximately 43°F, runs the burner as needed to warm the unit, and then shuts back off. It may cycle on periodically during extended cold weather depending on the temperature.
