The Progressive Dynamics PD52V can be used as a 50-amp automatic transfer switch in place of the PD52DCS, but it is not a feature-for-feature equivalent. The PD52V handles the same basic 50-amp shore power/generator transfer function, but it does not include a built-in surge protector. The original PD52DCS included surge protection as well as open-neutral and reverse-polarity protection. If you replace a PD52DCS with the PD52V and want to retain surge protection, a separate RV surge/electrical protection device would need to be installed.
