I have a 6 to 7 gallon Icon black tank that I am retro fitting into a 1958 Streamline vintage trailer. That trailer never had holding tanks. Where I am putting it is a tight fit. The only thing holding it from fitting is the flank that is at the top. The flange area is about an inch wide all the way around. I would like to trim 1/4 inch off two sides. It looks like bonded plastic. If I trim the very outside edge a 1/4 inch will it leak? It’s fully supported on the bottom and also all the way around the flange at the top. This will be used for grey water only. Thank you . Wade Long Vintage trailer restorer.

We don't recommend trimming the flange area of the tank. Even if only removing 1/4" from the outside edge, cutting into the molded plastic could compromise the tank and may create a leak point, especially once the tank is filled and under road vibration. For a tight retrofit, the safest option would be to adjust the mounting area if possible or look for a tank with slightly smaller dimensions.
