If you hear the thermostat click, but the AC does not start, it usually means the thermostat is calling for cooling, but the rooftop unit is not responding. This can be caused by a tripped breaker, a failed start or run capacitor, a faulty relay or control box in the unit, or an issue with the fan motor or compressor. If the rooftop unit is completely silent after the click, it often is because of a power issue, a failed capacitor, or a control component inside the AC unit.
