Why it might be happening with the WF-8955-AD-REP :
Battery is low on water / plates exposed (flooded battery), so it gasses fast.
Battery is damaged (shorted cell) and the converter is hammering it. (This is common: a bad battery makes everything look like “converter overcharging.”)
