The small board with the buttons/display and the main control board inside the machine are supposed to talk to each other.
-
E-6 shows when that communication drops out because of:
-
Loose or partially unplugged communication cable/connector
-
Corroded or damaged connector (moisture, vibration in an RV, etc.)
-
Failing display board or main board
-
-
Power cycle it properly
-
Turn the unit off.
-
Unplug shore power (or turn off the breaker / inverter feeding it).
-
Leave it off for a solid 5–10 minutes.
-
Plug back in and try again.
-
If E-6 comes back quickly, it’s not just a glitch.
-
-
Inspect the low-voltage harness between the display and main board
Only if you’re comfortable pulling panels and working around appliances:-
Unplug power before you touch anything.
-
Access the top/front panel (where the display is) and the main control board (usually behind a rear/top panel).
-
Look for the small multi-wire harness that goes from the display area down to the main board.
-
Reseat both ends:
-
Pull connector straight off.
-
Check for bent pins, corrosion, burnt spots.
-
Push it back on firmly until it’s fully seated.
-
-
Look for:
-
Any pinched, rubbed-through, or mouse-chewed sections of wire.
-
Signs of water or moisture near the board.
-
-
-
Visual check of the main board
-
Still with power disconnected:
-
Inspect the control board for:
-
Burn marks
-
Swollen or leaking capacitors
-
Cracked solder joints
-
-
If the harness and connectors look clean and solid, and the code still comes back, you’re usually down to:
-
Bad display board
-
Bad main control board
-
Or in rarer cases, the cable itself is bad internally
At that point it becomes a board-level repair or replacement job.
