A. Listen for the blower during startup “test” or high-heat
Some King/KP control boards have a test mode or will ramp through fans on startup. If you bump the heat setting up and never hear the room blower at all, even briefly, that points more toward:
-
Bad fan
-
Bad wiring
-
Bad board
If the blower sometimes runs or works after a full cool-down, think dirty blower / overheating / failing motor.
B. Full cleaning (better than “quick vacuum”)
If it hasn’t had a real cleaning this season, do this before you replace parts:
-
Unplug stove.
-
Pull side/rear panels if accessible.
-
Clean:
-
Convection blower blades and housing
-
Exhaust blower housing
-
Behind any baffles / plates that cover ash traps
-
The flue / vent as far as you can access
-
-
Make sure all air passages around the heat exchanger are open.
A very dirty convection blower can both:
-
Overheat and shut down, and
-
Prevent proper heat from reaching the snap disc.
If after a thorough clean the blower still never kicks in, move on.
C. Quick blower motor test (only if you’re comfortable)
-
Unplug the stove.
-
Find the convection blower (room air blower).
-
Check the wire connector from board to blower – make sure it’s fully seated, no burnt pins.
-
Spin the blower wheel by hand:
-
It should turn freely, not gritty, not stiff, no scraping.
-
If it’s stiff or noisy, that motor is suspect.
