Using a shorter anode rod will not negatively affect the overall protection of your water tank. The zinc alloy material will still effectively prevent corrosion inside the tank. However, because the rod is shorter, it contains less material, so it will corrode and deplete more quickly. As a result, you will need to inspect and replace it more frequently than a standard full-length rod to maintain optimal protection.
