To test if your propane tank sender is working, you will need a multimeter. First, test the gauge and wiring from inside the RV by turning off the propane and checking the display at the control panel. If the gauge appears to be functioning, turn off the RV's 12V power and go to the propane tank to test the sender directly. With the multimeter set to measure resistance, or ohms, disconnect the wire from the sender terminal and measure the resistance between the terminal and a clean metal part of the tank. The G12846 is a 90-ohm remote sender, meaning a full tank should show a reading neat 0 ohms, while an empty tank should read approximately 90 ohms. A reading between 0 and 90 will indicate a partially full tank. If the resistance reading does not change as the tank level fluctuates or shows a static open circuit, the sender is likely faulty and requires replacement.
