Yes, it is always recommended to use one along with the Surge Guard RV Voltage Regulator - 30 Amp. The voltage regulator itself is not a surge protector. For optimal line voltage regulation and surge protection, use a surge protector downstream of the voltage regulator, such as Surge Guard models 44750 or 348301. Additionally, to protect the voltage regulator itself, you can use Surge Guard model 44260 upstream of the voltage regulator.
