With our hitches, the bars are what is rated for the Loaded tongue weight. With the 31997, they can be used with a trailer that has a tongue weight of between 500 & 800 pounds. If the tongue weight is significantly under 500 lbs., you may experience a bit of tightness in the steering wheel. Almost as if the trailer is pushing back. If the trailers tongue weight is exceeding 800 lbs., then you will want to upgrade the bars to a larger weight capacity
