The Bluetooth does not count down as you use water, this would kill the battery on the gauge and on your device if they were constantly talking. The best way to check the gauge is measuring correctly is to use some water and press refresh on the app. This will update the totals in the app and save the units consumed in a table. This is really great to itemize each use of water to help with your off-grid planning. If you don't refresh when you have the app open the phone will not update the app with the new total.
