Yes some of our ES50M-65N transfer switches do hum. This is not a sign of defectiveness. Attached is our trouble shooting repair guide. You can perform the test referenced to see if you have a defective part in the switch. file:///C:/Users/mmaurer/Downloads/ES50M-65NTrblShootRepair102506.pdf

ESCO ES50M-65N 50 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch
The ESCO 50 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch is intended for use as an electrical transfer switch to automatically switch multiple sources. It will automatically switch from campground power to generator power and vice versa, if the generator is on, it will be the dominant source of power.
