The Surge Guard needs to be mounted based on the template.Diagram seems to show unit mounted horizontally instead of vertically. Are both acceptable? Surge Guard 40100-001 Basic 50 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch RV Automatic Transfer Switches

The Surge Guard Basic 50 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch transfers to generator power automatically when energized after a 30-second delay. Once the generator is shut down, shore power activates after a 3-4 second delay.

Answer: The manufacturer recommends mounting the unit any way other than flat where the label is facing the sky. Vertically or horizontally or upside down (label facing the earth) is advised.
