You can put it anywhere in line before the water pump or after the water pump. And yes every time you feel your refill your tank you will press the reset button for 3 seconds and it resets to the amount of gallons that you want to maintain. For example, in my case I have a 100 gallon water tank. I can only use 97 gallons of it. I have my tank gauge set for 90 gallons. So even though my tank is full it shows 90 gallons when it gets down to zero it will beep and blink red. But I know I have seven gallons left. The amount of gallons you choose to use as a Christian is completely definable by you. So each time I fill my tank I press the reset button for 3 seconds and it resets back to the 90 gallons.
