What is going on is you have an open ground on your 40250RVC. I suspect that you have the Surge Guard Remote Display which is announcing an open ground in the fault screen. This can be confirmed by reading the voltages going in to the 40250RVC. The open ground could be in the cord reel, plugs, cord or supply voltage.
I require the following readings to confirm the condition:
Line 1 and Line 2 to both Neutral and Ground. That is 4 readings which should be 120 volts.
Neutral to Ground should be zero volts
Line 1 to Line 2 should be 240 volts.
If the voltages are all good, the 40250 could be failed since it is an older unit. But make sure before replacing since the switches are expensive.
