I reached out to my tech at Cavagna and he said that ball came out of the regulator not the hose. The function of the small plastic ball is to prevent gas from escaping while changing from empty to full cylinder.
But the same type of ball is located in the green plastic nut that connects hose to cylinder, in fact you can hear it rattling if you shake the hose.
That ball performs the same job of preventing gas from escaping while changing from empty to full cylinder.
Therefore, you don't need to put back that plastic ball because the ball in the green plastic nut will take over that job, in other words the ball in the regulator is redundant .
The regulator will function perfectly without it, so just connect hose back to regulator without the small plastic ball.
