We do not have a recommended drill size. Personally I would try a 3/16".
What size drill bit for the 4 pilot holes to mount the unit? Tekonsha 902502 Prodigy RF Brake Controller brake controller
The self-tapping screws are 1/4" and DON'T self-tap through steel frame, nor can they cut through using a smaller pilot hole.
