It will work in the winter for you when the vent is closed. Most people winterize the roof vents by covering them.

The installation appears straightforward. When the vent is down or in the closed position, is there still air flow to the outside. We use our RV in the winter and don’t want air to exchange with the outside when closed for obvious reasons.
