Sort of. The limit switch report to the module board when it gets too hot. It fulfills this important function to protect the heat exchanger and furnace discharge air temperatures from exceeding an allowable threshold ultimately acting as a safety component to protect the user. Each furnace model requires its own limit switch that is preset at a certain temperature. Each furnace is in place not only to protect the furnace but to also insure the temperature of the air coming out of each air register does not exceed 200 degrees per ANSI code.
