The elite II doesn't have the boots and does not cause a problem. The legs are made differently to eliminate other parts and make it easier to lock in. Also stows easier.

I am owner of Elite II and under the direction of Tod, the owner, I took it apart to find the problem. It is made differently for sure but because it is a new product (I have serial #60) there is an issue that happens after a while. The arms become difficult to lock. When I took arm apart I found corrosion and I found that the pin had deformities on its surface which causes the force needed to lock the arm to increase to an unacceptable level. Removing the corrosion and lubricating the pin and the end of the extension arm makes it work like new. A permanent solution would be if NSA would add a "ramp" to help the pin enter it's lock position. I am going to try to build this ramp and if successful it means I won't have to lube and deal with the additional collection of dirt. Otherwise, I love it. KISS (keep it simple, silly) is what this tow bar/brake is all about.
