Yes, the silver piece is a cover that is needed and should not be removed from this High Pointe microwave.
Is the silver cardboard piece on the inside of this RV microwave necessary? High Pointe EC942K6BES Over The Range Convection Microwave Oven - Stainless Steel RV Microwave
This appears to cover a vent on the side of the microwave.
