It depends on the battery itself. The battery when it has a full charge will have a lot of resistance and will not allow current through, when the resistance is low (like a dead battery) the current flows easily through the battery during a charge cycle, once the resistance starts to build back up the battery ( hold a charge) the current begins to slow down as the battery resistance is building back up, once the resistance matches the current coming into the battery it stops charging or holds the voltage until the battery requires more current/voltage.
The maximum is roughly 56 amps, but the charger will only charge as much as the battery needs to be full.
