The Showermiser has a lever on it. When you first start your shower, the water is normally cold. In most cases, that water just runs down the drain and into the gray water tank without even getting dirty. This unit is designed to redirect the cold water back into the fresh water tank to cycle back through until you are actually ready to use the water. When the tube changes colors to the white stripes, this means the water is warming up. You can flip the lever on the Showermiser to stop it from redirecting the water to the fresh water tank and instead, up to your shower head and your shower is ready to be used normally. The dirty water still runs down the drain and into the gray water tank but the cold water is redirected back to the fresh water tank before it even comes through the shower head.
