Sometime the Surge Guard 41260 will chatter. That is when the relay contactor tries to close but has an issue and it tries again and again. Every time it makes contact internally, it makes a noise which can be loud. This is usually due to low voltage supply or a failed switch. Hard to diagnose from the info provided. It also can make a buzzing noise which occurs when the actual contacts are dirty and a good connection is not possible. The last noise it makes is a hum. This hum is due to the coil in the relay vibrating. It is not a detrimental condition, not an indication of a pending failure. It is a characteristic of 120 volts of AC electricity going across a coil.
If you would like to check out a relay based transfer switch that is quieter and works great, check out the Esco LPT50BRD here--> https://www.rvupgradestore.com/LYGHT-...
