The heat activated tape is in a non-tacky state until heat is applied, which activates the bonding property. When heat and pressure are applied, the tape is activated, and ultimately provides an extremely high bond. You can use a hair dryer and pressure to activate the adhesive, but you must make sure you have a completely clean and dry surface for it to stick.

The HAT(heat activated tape) is the red backed 3M tape. It does not necessarily need heat applied, however, it works best if you apply it when it is warmer outside or in a garage.
