Is the chain coming off a common problem? How difficult is it to get to on a fifth wheel RV?

No, the chain coming off is not a normal problem that I have seen. The chain is behind the plate on the right side of the RL54331LMK, you can get to the chain by unscrewing this plate and taking it off. This should not be difficult to get to on a fifth wheel. You may need to unscrew it from the installation site to turn it sideways if there is not enough room to get to the chain while it is installed.
