Will the CV 1500 power unit replace the CV 950 power unit without buying anything else? Same dimensions, bags etc.

Yes you can just swap out the CV950 for the CV1500 central vacuum power unit. They use all the same parts and if I remember correctly they have the same dimensions, but here are the dimensions of the CV1500 power unit so you can double check.
Dimensions:7.5" x 7" x 14.25".
