how do i calculate the right regualator that will work for me?

There is no actual equation, but if you have a high demand for propane, you would need to go with a high pressure regulator. Although, it would not hurt anything if you use a high pressure regulator either way. It would be recommended to use a high pressure regulator if you have more than one furnace or other large appliance that needs quite a bit of propane.
