This is usually caused by a stuck relay in the control box or there is a wire in the wall that has 12 volts going to it when there shouldn't be.
Unit hums when breaker opened and thermostat in off position,Unplugged control box and opened the breaker no hum. Coleman Mach 8330-3851 Air Conditioner Control Box
Unit shouldn’t make noise if thermostat in off position and breaker opened but it does. Unplugged control box and no noise with thermostat off and breaker opened. Plugged back in makes a hum noise like motor is jammed but it shouldn’t be on if in off position on thermostat
