If I plug the 41260 automatic transfer switch into a 30A pedestal, is my unit still protected?

You will need to use an adapter but yes you can plug the 41260 50 amp automatic transfer switch into a 30 amp pedestal. As far as protection goes this automatic transfer switch does not have any voltage protection. For that you would want to consider a surge protector with voltage protection.
