MEGR-291 has the vent positioned directly over the outlet of the regulator, so the vent is pointed downward when the regulator is mounted vertically.
MEGR-298 has the vent positioned 90° CW from the outlet, so the vent can be pointed downward when the regulator is mounted horizontally. This would typically be when the regulator is mounted directly to the tank valve, such as on a motorhome with a frame mounted tank.
The vertical regulator as a model 290 and the horizontal regulator as a model 299, functionally the same regulator, but with different vent positions. The same is true for MEGR-291 and MEGR-298; the only difference is the position of the vent. Both regulators use the same components; the difference is how they are put together. The base part of the body for both regulators has MEGR-291 cast into the part, so an MEGR-298 has MEGR-291 cast into the back side, but it has MEGR-298 etched near the outlet. I think a similar situation may exist for the Marshall Gas Controls model 290 and 299. So, the MEGR-291, linked below will replace the model 290, and the MEGR-298 will replace the model 299. Which regulator you need all boils down to which vent position you need.
