Resin won't normally need to be replaced unless you spill it out the unit or if the beads inside freeze. You will know when to regenerate by one, the water quality when rinsing your vehicle, the vehicle will get spots on it when it dries. Another way would be by using test strips below is a link to all the instructions for the On The Go Water Softeners.
