Yes you will want to hitch to the vehicle or have it jacked. You do not want to have any weight on the jack when taking the 3 bolts off.

If you take bolts out of hitch jack, how does it stay up? I'm new to this and am concerned by taking the 3 bolts off that it will come crashing down.
