Why could you not just run a charge line from the rv connector to the towed battery to do the same thing?

According to the manufacturer, The Towed Battery Charger is a charge line on steroids. It has a built-in diode to prevent back flow and has an LED to let you know that it's all hooked up properly and you're getting 12V. A piece of wire alone doesn't give you any assurances. Hope this helps.
