According to the tech at Camco, if you remove the control valve knob, the recess mounting kit easily slides over the front of the heater, the gas connection fitting is on the backside of the mounting kit (inside the wall). If you leave the control valve knob on, it will still go on, but you must place one side over the valve and then lower the other side over the piezo sparker button. There is not enough room to mount the recess kit behind the gas connection where the gas line is on the outside of the wall (in the living space).
The recess mounting kit is then installed to the heater. The gas connection as mentioned above will be inside the wall, not on the outside of the wall. This gas connection should be made with copper line and securely mounted to the heater before attaching the assembly to the wall. They will need to fish this gas line into the wall, secure the heater to the wall, then finish the gas connection from the heater to the supply line. They should also have so sort of shut valve readily accessible that they can shut the supply gas to the heater. I don't recommend anybody other than somebody that is a certified LP gas technician doing the gas lines and connections.
