According to a tech at Lippert, if you measure between the fitting, subtract 1.5" and that will give you the travel of said cylinder. you can also view the color of the steel cylinder jacket to match it to what you are looking for.
for example: grey 39.5 between the fittings is an industry standard 38 grey. this is for the LCI cylinders anyway. what you are working on should be lipperts. 95% of the cylinders will have 3/4-10 (coarse) thread. this will help you identify the Lippert cylinders
