Because the unit still functions even if the trailer is not hooked up. This is a safety feature, this is so someone doesn't accidentally forget to turn the unit on while towing.
How come when the trailer is not hooked up I get numbers on the brake controller display Tekonsha 90160 Primus IQ Brake Control brake controller
