There are a few different methods depending on the mfg'er and model of ceiling light. Most of them screw off, in the case of this light, you would twist it counter-clockwise by putting pressure on the trim ring. If you find that you are turning it, but it is not loosening or coming off, then you most likely have the type that has spring tabs and the light can be pried with a screw driver & pulled down.
