is rewiring required to replace the old dome lights (motor coach is 1978) and if not, do these just plug into place

If your current lights have a plug, in most case the manufacturer of the RV added that for faster install when the RV was built. This light does not have a connector. Generally, you will have just 2 wires ( a positive & negative) and you would cut the connector off (if you have one) and use the existing wiring to wire nut to this light fixture.
