There are a few things that go into solving this problem.
First, Where is your thermostat located? Is it by anything giving off heat or cold air that could be affecting the readings?
Next, Sometimes there is natural heat coming from the wall itself. What you can do to help prevent this from happening is pull out the thermostat and put some installation behind the unit to help with more accurate readings.
