The leg is made of zinc plated steel, there is a rubberized plastic cap on the end. Yes, you could take a hack saw and cut it to the required length and recap it with the existing end cap.

Is there picture of the leg end? I want this style but only need 27 1/2 inches, can it be cut down to size ?
