The unit is 15" in diamter and 17" tall. You use wood pucks or chucks that do create a flame inside the unit. The wood can be purchased at any lowes or homedepot in the barbaque section. They come in different flavors if so desired. Here is an example http://www.lowes.com/pd_671906-37442-...
