SURGE PROTECTOR SSP-30XL - $99 VS MORE EXPENSIVE $200
Progressive Industries SSP-30XL Portable 30 Amp RV Smart Surge Protector W/Weather Shield
RV Surge Protection
The SSP-30XL appears to have indicator lights, lock & life time warranty. The major difference between this type and the more expensive ones is that the more expensive ones actually shut off the power when there is a problem, and the SSP-30XL, does not and only has the indicator lights. If I am correct, and other than the indicator lights for a problem before you plug your RV cord into the surge protector, how does the SSP-30XL protect your RV if it does not interrupt the power in the event of a problem??
Thanks
Rich

The SSP-30XL only protects your RV on an active basis when there is a surge of power sent by a lightening strike or some sort of power transformer issue. It basically absorbs that energy that would fry anything on your RV electrical grid. I would only recommend this style of Surge Protection for RV'ers that visit campgrounds with known stable power. High and low voltage is far more common and a much bigger issue that will cause problems with transfer switches, air conditioners and convert/inverters.
