The extra wire in this detector allows for 2 power sources (in case one were to fail). For your installation you would only use (1) of the red wires for positive and the black wire for negative to power the unit.�

Hi, I am thinking about buying the Dual LP/CO detector but need to know how to connect it. My current LP detector is connected using only two wires. The dual detector has 3, how would I connect it to the 2 existing wires? Thank You.
